yoel, a Christian disagree with your article on Elohim. Any thoughts?

....................................................................

Yoel
>Elohim is NOT the plural of el (another word for god). Elim is the plural
>of el. Elohim is either the singular or plural form of itself.

Ever heard of "eloah" ?? and the plural of eloah is elohim. Hm....
Too bad the article is dead before it began.

>Elohim is not the plural form of god. It is EITHER the plural OR singular
>form of god. Like the word sheep in English is either singular or plural.
>Following is a repost of my original posting dealing with this.

only that there is no sigular of sheep, but there is a singular of elohim,
being eloah.

Yoel
>Elohim is singular OR plural.

repetition doesn't make it more true.

Yoel
>You can tell which it is by the conjugation
>of the verb. When refering to the Jewish God, the action verb is always
>conjugated in singular.

Not even that it true. There are more but one counterexample is enough:
Genesis 20:13

Yoel
>The ending -im IS the masculine plural ending, BUT just because -im appears
>at the end of a word does not make the word plural. Just because Jesus ends
>with an "s" (the English plural ending) doesn't mean that there is more
>than one Jesus.

The plural of Jesus is Jesuses
The plural of kiss is kisses
...

No, there are many singular words that end in s and just get
another (e)s for the plural. What exactly are you talking about?
In any case, it is eloah and elohim.
