I was having a discussion with a Christian and he mailed me following inf=
o
about archeological claims that it proves Bible is true. How accurate are
these claims :

............
And concerning to his archeological remarks that he said "we cannot trust=
the
Bible", well he is full of Bolony, I did some research, and gathered some
info for you to chew on, read the following: For hundreds of years, many
stories and personalities written in the Bible were denied until fascina=
ting
archeological finds confirmed the accuracy of the Bible. Today biblical
personalities that were denied for hundreds of years like Nebuchadnezzar,
Belshazzar, Daruis, and King David can be confirmed by the study of the
science of archeology as 100% true and accurate. King David for example w=
as
considered to be a myth by many universities. Yet in 1993 archeologists d=
ug
out a stone tablet at Tel Dan in Israel clearly refering to the =93house =
of
David=94(Bait Daveed), identifying him as king of Israel. This was the fi=
rst
inscription outside the Bible dated to about the ninth century B.C. Also =
king
Omri, another king of Israel was found recorded in the well known Stela o=
f
King Mesha of Moab, which also included are three kings of Assyria,
Tiglath-Pileser III, Saragon II, and king Shalmanesser III. Other Assyria=
n
inscriptions found in Nineveh(Neenawa) in Iraq confirmed kings Ahab, Jehu=
,
Joash, Menehem, Pekah, Ahaziah, Uzziah, Ahaz, Hezekiah, Manasseh, Jehoiac=
hin
and Hoshea. And with such strong evidence, no honest scholar can refute t=
he
history of the Bible. The well known Black Obelisk in the ruins of Nimrod=
was
also found confirmes the biblical accounts of the conquest of the Assyria=
n
King Shalmaneser II over King Jehu of Israel(841-814 B.C) confirming the
accounts of the Book of Kings. Another stone inscription discovered in th=
e
temple of Pharaoh at Thebes in Egypt which mentioned an invasion by the
Egyptians against Israel confirming the presence of Israel at the time of
Joshua which was accused by many critics of the Bible as fiction. The
countless books written criticizing the Bible were rendered as obselete a=
nd
worthless, and had to be removed from the scholarly accounts of history. =
Also
the well known clay cylinder found in Iraq which mentioned King Cyrus and=
his
decree allowing the various captured natives to be freed back to their
homelands confirming the Book of Ezra 1:1-3. Other examples can be quoted
such as Genisis 14, God in the Bible tells of the story of Abraham(Ibrahi=
m)
of the defeat of the confederation of five kings from the East by the sma=
ll
army of Abraham. While the critics denied the historicity of the biblical
account Dr. Nelson Glueck, the leading archeologist of this century repor=
ts:
=93Centuries earlier, another civilization of higher achievment had flour=
eshed
between the 21st and 19th century B.C, till it was savagely liquidated by=
the
kings of the East. According to the biblical statements, which have been
borne out by the archeological evidence, they gutted every city and villa=
ge
at the end of that period from Ashtaroth Karnaim, in southern Syria thru =
all
of Trans-Jordan and the Negev to Kadesh-Barnea in Sainai(Genisis 14:1-7)=94.
And confirming the accuracy of the Bible when it comes to Archeology he
stated: =93As a matter of fact, however, it may be stated categoraclly th=
at no
archeological discovery have ever contraverted a biblical reference. Scor=
es
of archeological findings have been made which confirms in clear outline =
or
in exact detail historical statements in the Bible. And, by the same toke=
n,
proper evaluation of biblical descriptions has often led to amazing
discoveries. They form tesserae in the vast mosaic of the Bible=92s almos=
t
incredible correct historical memory=94 (Nelson Glueck, Rivers in the Des=
ert,
[New York: Farar, Straus and Cudahy, 1959], p. 31].
The tower of Babel and the dispersment of the people after changing th=
eir
speech which can be confirmed by several language scholars and archeologi=
cal
finds as the remains of the Tower of Babel can still be seen. The greates=
t
oriental language scholar Dr. Max Mueller declared that all human languag=
es
can be traced back to one single original language. The bricks with the s=
tory
of Nebuchadnezzar can be confirmed as it has been engraved on the bricks,
which were translated by professors Oppert and William Loftus, confirming
it=92s first abandonment at the time of Nimrod(Al-Namrood), and the confu=
sion
of the languages described in Genisis 11:1-8 as Nebuchadnezzar declared
=93Since a remote time, people had abandoned it, without order expressing=
their
words.=94.
Even the seven the historical account of Joseph and the seven years of
famine in Genesis 41 can be confirmed today as a marble tablet surfaced o=
n
the seashore of Hadramaut in Yemen from around 1,800 B.C translated in Ar=
abic
by Professor Schultens and translated by Reverand Charles Foster which
states: =93Then came years barren and burnt up: when one evil year had pa=
ssed
away, then came another to suceed it...=94. Other inscriptions were found=
to
confirmed Josephs(Yusuf), careful management of the food reserves during =
the
seven years of famine in Egypt. Even the name of Joseph was mentioned in =
one
of these inscriptions.
The story of the =93Walls of Jericho=94 also was considered for many year=
s as a
fairy tale until Professor John Garstang found one of the most emazing
discoveries of the century as he writes: =93As to the main fact, then, th=
ere
remains no doubt: the walls fell outwards so completely that the attacker=
s
would be able to clamber up and over their ruins into the city.=94. While=
all
digs confirm an inward falling of any excavated city as armies pushed the
walls, the only walls found to be pushed outwards was the walls of Jerich=
o.
Yet confirming the Bible in the Book of Joshua chapter 6 verse 20 which r=
ead:
=93And the walls fell down flat, so the people went up into the city ever=
y man
straight ahead, and they took the city.=94. To confirm check:(John Garsta=
ng,
Joshua Judges,[London:Constable,1931]).
