If I may make such a sweeping assertion as you just did, let me say
that the reason you don't want to accept that atheists are moral human
beings is that it contradicts your fond belief that morality is divinely
revealed.
Please, Ron, start thinking about what you say.
RON
OK, I'm properly chastened! But just out of curiosity how many of you
follow exactly the RCC's sexual requirements, i.e. no sex outside of
marriage, no birth control, no second marriages, no masturbation, no
homosexual acts, no abortions, no adultery, no pornography, etc.? I
still contend it is a major influence, but won't quantify it.
JANET
Well, I'm wondering why you think *any* of us would follow exactly the
RCC's sexual requirements? How many Catholics do you think follow them
exactly? I live in an area of the country which is predominantly Catholic,
and I can tell you that *most* of the Catholics I know practice or have
practiced birth control.
Yes, I think that Christianity has certainly influenced our moral sphere.
That is not quite the same as morality deriving from it. Again, I remind
you of the posts from Farrell and Joseph Crea pointing out moral codes
pre-existing Christianity, and even Judaism, by a long time.
