Many people believe the fact of a spherical earth was clearly proclaimed
in the Bible
by the author of the book of Isaiah. "It is He who sits above the circle
of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, who stretches
out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them out like a tent to dwell
in."-Isaiah 40:22(NKJ)

Because belief in a flat earth was prevalent at that time, many claim
that that verse
not only confirms the scientific accuracy of the Bible but that it also
confirms
that the knowledge in the Bible came from God.

During a Lunar eclipse the curved edge of earth's shadow crawls over the
face of the moon. Up untill we sent astronauts into space who could look
back and actually see that the earth was round the only visual proof we
had that the earth was round was the curve of the earth's shadow during
lunar eclipses. In fact in 300 b.c. a Greek named Eratosthenes tried to
convince the world that the earth was indeed a sphere and used as one of
his proofs the curvature of the earth's shadow during lunar eclipses and
incredibly it was simply because of philosophical prejudices that his
proof was not accepted for over 1500 years. This knowledge of the earth
as a sphere was available to man in ancient times and without "divine
revelation".

Of course other Bible verses seem to indicate a belief in a non-spherical
earth, such as
Job 37:3 the earth has ends or edges, or Isaiah 11:12 and revelation 7:1
the earth has four corners.
